Global monkeypox virus (MPXV) distribution Since thelastsituation report,andas of15 February2026,one country,Comoros,and one territory,LaRéunion(Overseas Department of France),havereported mpox due to clade Ib MPXV for the first time(Figure 1).Forboth,this isalsothefirsttime they havereportedmpox cases.Detailed informationonclade-specifictransmissiondynamicscan be found in thesituation report#53. Global situation Global surveillancedataareupdatedmonthly;datapresented here areas of31January2026. InJanuary 2026,50countriesreported1334confirmed cases(Figure 3), includingthreedeaths (case fatality ratio[CFR] 0.2%)5. The countries with the highest number of confirmed cases in the last month are in theWHOAfrican Region (Figure3), which reported66% (881of 1334) of confirmed cases inJanuary2026.TheWHO African Regionhas beenreportingan overalldownward trend in confirmed mpox casesfollowing the peak in May 2025, withmonthlyconfirmed case counts remaining stableoverthe last two months(Figure 4).More details can be found in theAfricasection. TheEuropean Regionreported a 67% increase in confirmedcases (from 129 to216confirmed cases) in January2026, compared to December 2025. FourWHOregionsobservedadeclineinreportedconfirmedcasesinJanuary 2026compared toDecember 2025:the Eastern Mediterranean Region(75%,fromfour tooneconfirmed case),theRegionof the Americas(54%,from376to 172confirmed cases),theWestern PacificRegion,(46%,from90to49confirmed cases), andthe South-East Asia Region (12%,from17 to15confirmed cases). Situation in Africa This sectionreports on dataprovidedasof15February2026. From 1 January2025to15 February2026,30countries in Africa reported45 726confirmed mpox cases,including203deaths(CFR0.4%).Twentycountrieson the continenthavereportedactive transmission of mpox in the lastsixweeks(Figure5), with1142confirmed cases, includingfourdeaths (CFR 0.4%),during this period.Countriesreporting the highest number ofconfirmedcasesover the last six weeksare the Democratic Republic of the Congo(367 confirmed cases),Madagascar(332),Guinea(104),Liberia(96),andGhana(50).Thesecountries have beenreporting overall downwardtrendsin confirmed casesin recent weeks. Overall,weeklyreportedconfirmed cases continue to declineonthe continent, withfewer than 300 new confirmedcases reportedper weekrecently(Figure 6).Datafor the most recent weeks should be interpreted with caution,as reporting delays often le
