External Situation Report n.30, published26September2025 Inthisedition: •Overview•Global epidemiological update•WHO regional overviews•Focuson selectedsubregions andcountries•Operational updates•Keychallenges•Nextsteps Overview Dataasof31August2025 •InAugust2025 (epidemiological weeks32to 35), a total of57215new cholera and acute waterydiarrhoea(AWD)cases were reported from23countries, territories, areas (hereafter countries) acrossthreeWHO regions, showinga16%decreasefrom July. The period also saw758cholera-related deaths globally, a22%decreasefrom theprevious month. •InAugust2025, the number of cholera cases was25% lower, while the number of deaths was118% higherwhencomparedtoAugust2024, when76235cases and348cholera-related deaths were reported across 20countries.•From1January to31August2025, a cumulative total of462890cholera cases and5869deaths were reportedfrom 32countries across fiveWHO regions, with the Eastern Mediterranean Region recording the highestnumbers, followed by the African Region, the South-East Asia Region, the Region of the Americas, and theWestern Pacific Region. No cases were reported intheEuropeanRegion.•InAugust2025, the average stockpile of Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) was2.6milliondoses, below the emergencystockpile level of five million.More thansevenmillion doses were produced in August, a production record for thesecond time since the stockpile was created. Nevertheless, growing global demand continues to exceed supply, hindering efforts to control cholera outbreaks and implement preventative campaigns.•Conflict, mass displacement, disasters from natural hazards, and climate change have intensified outbreaks, particularly in rural and flood-affected areas, wherepoor infrastructure and limited healthcare access delaytreatment. These cross-border factors have made cholera outbreaks increasingly complex and harder to control.•The overall cholera data remain incomplete due to underreporting and reporting delays. Additionally, extremeweather events and conflict, as experienced in several cholera affected countries, have resulted in low or noreporting from some areas. Given these complexities, the data presented here likely underestimates the trueburden of cholera and should be interpreted with caution. Globalepidemiological update InAugust2025 (epidemiological weeks32to 35), a total of57215new cholera and AWD cases were reported from23 countries across three WHO regions, showing a 16%decrease from the previous month. The EasternMediterranean Region (40732 cases; four countries) reported the highest number of cases, followed by the AfricanRegion (15487cases;15countries),andthe South-East Region (996cases;fourcountries). In the same period,758cholera-related deaths were registered, representing a22%decrease compared to June 2025. The highest numberof deaths was recorded in the African region (495deaths; 11countries), followed by the Eastern Mediterranean Region(263deaths; three countries). No deaths were reported in the South-East Asia Region. From 1 January 2025 to31August2025, a cumulative total of462890cholera and AWD cases and5869deathswere reported globally acrossfiveWHO regions. The region with the highest reported case count was the EasternMediterranean Region (268293cases; six countries), followed by the African Region (186 787cases;21 countries),the South-East Asia Region (4403cases; five countries),the Region of the Americas (2496 cases; one country),andthe Western Pacific Region(911 cases;onecountry). During this period, cholera and AWD deaths were reported intheAfrican region (4194deaths), the Eastern Mediterranean Region (1633deaths), the Region of the Americas(31 deaths), the WesternPacificRegion (10 deaths),and the South-East Asia Region (one death). Thedata presented here should be interpretedcautiouslydue to potentialunderreporting andreportingdelays.Thismay affect the timeliness of reports, andthus, the presented figures might not accurately represent thetrue burden of cholera. The diversity of surveillance systems, case definitions, and laboratory capacities amongcountries means that statistics on cholera cases and deaths are not directly comparable. Additionally, the globalcasefatality rate (CFR)for cholera warrants a prudent examination as it is heavily influenced by variations in surveillancemethodologies. In this document, the term 'cholera cases' encompasses both suspected and confirmed cases, unlessnotedotherwise. The data within this report are subject topotential retrospective adjustments as more accurateinformation becomes available. For the latest data, please refer to WHO’sGlobal Cholera and AWD Dashboard. *Case and death numbers presented are not directly comparable due to differences in case definitions, reporting systems, and general underreporting. All data are subject toverification and change due to data availability and accessibility. Respective figures and numbers will be updated as more informationbecomes available. The data in Table 1 includes suspe
