If you are, andit’s your first time reading Quarterly, then thank you. If you are readingthe online edition from the comfort of your own office, home, bus, train, camel or private jet, then also thank you. For those that are familiar with Quarterly then this edition will lookslightly different than previous editions. But don’t worry, it’s just arefresh of the design, all of the usual hard data and intel you havecome to rely on are still to be found inside. Alud DaviesMedia & PublicationsDirector For those that aren’t familiar with Quarterly, please let me gentlyintroduce you to what you can find inside. For me, I like to think aboutQuarterly as reviewing the past, as well as giving you the tools youneed to predict the future. When I say the future, I don’t mean pickingthe next lottery numbers or horse race winner, I mean the directionthat the industry is heading in. To do this, we run a survey every quarter that is distributed tobusiness aviation professionals just like yourself. We send it acrossall aspects of business aviation, from owners to operators, throughfuel companies to FBOs, and from financers to the manufacturersthemselves, all so that we can get a broad opinion on the current stateof the market and the economy. This section is one of the parts that Quarterly is most well knownfor. We call it our Mood and Intentions Survey, the results of thelatest one can be found on page 11. The survey itself has asked thesame questions for many years, which has allowed us to track thefortunes of the industry, as well as predict when things are likelyto change. We do this partly by asking people how optimistic theyare feeling about the industry, economy and their own company, aswell as asking if they have any intention to charter or purchase anyaircraft in the coming 12 months. This then allows readers to see forthemselves how the industry is feeling, and more importantly, givesa good idea about what direction the industry might be heading in. So that’s the future, what about the past? Well, we can see what hasbeen happening in the past through various sections, including theFlight Activity (Page 34) Market Dynamics (Page 56), and MarketSummary sections. The Flight Activity section, which utilizes raw data kindly suppliedby WINGX, looks back over how frequently aircraft in the region haveactually been flying in the past quarter. This data is perhaps moreimportant than just a count of aircraft in the region: It is of courseone thing to have a jet, but a completely different thing to actually useit. So as well as looking at the region as a whole, the Flight Activitysection also breaks down the aircraft types being used, as well astaking a look at the monthly movements at each of the more popularAsia-Pacific cities.
