ObjectivesThe objectives of the manpower update are:(i)to examine the latest trends anddevelopments in the industry;(ii)to explore the job market situationand training needs;(iii)to identify the recruitmentchallenges; and(iv)to recommend measures to meet thetraining needs and to ease theproblem of manpower shortage. 2 2024 Manpower Update Report of Insurance IndustryMethodologyOverviewWith reference to the 2021 full manpowersurvey of the insurance industry, this updatereport aims to provide qualitativedescriptions of the recent development ofthe industry through focus group meetings,supplemented by making reference to somequantitative data of recruitmentadvertisements from desk research.Focus Group MeetingThe focus group members arerepresentatives from seven sectors of theinsurance industry, including:i)Life insurer;ii)General insurer;iii)Reinsurers / captive insurers;iv)General insurance broker;v)Life-tied agent;vi)Company agency; andvii)Independent financial advisor sector.Two focus group meetings were conductedon 7 and 9 May 2024.The secretariat staffserved as the moderator and led membersto in-depth discussions on topics selected bythe INTB.The discussions at the meetingwere recorded and transcribed to facilitateanalysis. Desk ResearchRecruitment records covering the periodbetween Quarter 3 of 2023 and Quarter 2 of2024 were collected through desk researchby quarter.An employment informationsystem was developed to capture therelevant recruitment data from major onlinerecruitment portals.Some 11,036recruitment records were collected duringthe research period and served as indicativeinformation of the job market trend.Thelist of related companies under the HongKong Standard Industrial Classification wasmapped to remove duplicated records.Data AnalysisThe analysis consists of the following threesteps:Collect qualitativeinformation fromfocus group.Analyse both qualitative and quantitativeinformation with input from members of INTB. 3Collectquantitativeinformation fromdesk research 2024 Manpower Update Report of Insurance IndustryLimitationsAs this is not a full manpower survey, thefindings and recommendations of the focusgroup meeting are more qualitative innature and the report focuses mainly on themanpower trends.The information on jobadvertisements was collected from majorrecruitment websites and the LabourDepartment.Other channels, such asheadhunting for managerial positions, werenot covered.Since the data collected is asnapshot of a particular period withoutreference to any historical data, this canserve as reference informationsupplementary to the findings of the focusgroup meetings. 2024 Manpower Update Report of Insurance IndustryFindingsFactors Affecting the Development of theInsurance IndustryTo gain an understanding of the factors influencing recent developments or changes invarious branches of the insurance industry, focus group members were invited to share theirviews.
