ObjectivesThe objectives of the manpower update are:(i)to examine the latest trends anddevelopments in the industry;(ii)to explore the job market situationand training needs;(iii)to identify the recruitmentchallenges; and(iv)to recommend measures to meet thetraining needs and to ease theproblem of manpower shortage. 2 2024 Manpower Update Report of Banking and Finance IndustryMethodologyOverviewWith reference to the 2021 full manpowersurvey and 2023 manpower update of thebanking and finance industry, this updatereport aims to provide qualitativedescriptions of the recent development ofthe industry through a focus group meeting,supplemented by making reference to somequantitative data on recruitmentadvertisements from desk research.Focus Group MeetingMembers participating in the focus groupsare representatives from the banking andfinance industry, including:1.Banks;2.Securities and futures institutions;3.Fund houses/ asset managementcompanies;4.A local tertiary institute; and5.A young in-service practitioner.A focus group meeting was conducted on 29May 2024.The secretariat staff served asthe moderator and led members to in-depthdiscussions on topics selected by theWorking Party on Manpower Survey of theBFTB.The discussions at the meeting wererecorded and transcribed to facilitateanalysis. Desk ResearchAn employment information system wasdeveloped to capture the relevantrecruitment data from major onlinerecruitment portals.Recruitment recordswere collected between Quarter 3 of 2023and Quarter 2 of 2024 for the industry.Collected information was mapped againstthe list of companies related to the bankingand finance industry under the Hong KongStandard Industrial Classification devised bythe Census and Statistics Department.After mapping and removal of duplicatedrecords, a total of 38,365 recruitmentrecords were collected during the researchperiod and served as indicative informationof the job market trend.Data AnalysisThe analysis consists mainly of the followingthree steps:Collect qualitativeinformation fromfocus group.Analyse both qualitative and quantitativeinformation with input from members of BFTB. 3Collectquantitativeinformation fromdesk research 2024 Manpower Update Report of Banking and Finance IndustryLimitationsAs this is not a full manpower survey, thefindings and recommendations of the focusgroup meeting are more qualitative in natureand the report focuses mainly on themanpower trends.The information on jobadvertisements was collected from majorrecruitment websites and the LabourDepartment.Other channels, such asheadhunting for managerial positions, werenot covered.Since the data collected is asnapshot of a particular period withoutreference to any
