Z/Yen has worked extensivelywithnot-for-profit clients toimplementpractical approachestomeasuringtheimpactoftheirwork.Forthelasteightyears,wehavepublishedan“evidenceofworthreport”for our Long Finance programme. This document reviews theachievements of the Long Finance Programme over 2023. We assess thevalue oftheLongFinance programme across the four following‘evidence of worth’outcomes: 1.expanding frontiers to mitigateneeds;2.changing systems to remove or releaseneeds;3.service delivery to meetneeds;4.communitarian to address needs for or through communalactivity. 2023In Summary Programme-Financial Centre FuturesThis programmeexploresthe changing landscape of global finance, seeking to explore how finance might work in the future. There arecurrentlytwoprojects in this programme:The Global Financial Centres Index The Smart Centres Index TheGlobalFinancialCentresIndexispublished twice per year,hasaglobalaudience andreceives extensivepresscoverageincluding the Financial Times,Wall Street Journal,FinancialExpress, New York Times,Reuters,Bloomberg,China Daily,AlJazeera, South China Morning Post,Korea JoonAng Daily,Khaleej Times,CNBC, Irish Times, andThe Washington Post. Thethirty-third and thirty-fourth editions of the GlobalFinancialCentres Index were published in March andSeptember respectively.132 financial centreswereresearchedfor GFCI 34,andthe number of centres in the main index hasincreased to 121, with the inclusion of Miami. There are 11associate centres awaiting potentialinclusion in the mainindex.TheChina Development Institute (CDI) in Shenzhen andZ/Yen Partners in London collaborate in producing the GFCI. The Smart Centres IndexThe eighthedition of the SmartCentres Index was publishedinNovember 2023. SCI8rates theinnovation and technology offerings of leading commercialcentres, tracking their ability to create, develop, and deploytechnology. 131 commercial and financial centres were researched for SCI8 of which 77are included in the index. SCI 8 was compiledusing 135 instrumental factors. These quantitative measuresare provided by third parties including the World Bank, TheEconomist Intelligence Unit, the OECD, and the United Nations. The instrumental factors are combined with financial centreassessmentsprovided by respondents to the SCI onlinequestionnaire. SCI 7 uses 1,705 assessments provided by 232respondents. Programme-Meta-Commerce Meta-Commerce aims to identify and structure the criticalquestions underlying the long-termviabilityofthefinancialsystem.InspiredbyDavidHilbert's23questionsprojectof1900,the Meta-Commerce programme brings together financial experts across a range ofdisciplines, with a view to producing a framework of questions in order to prioritise futureresearch and direct action.
