Overview & Analysis of Highest EfficientCommercial Solar Panels Authors: Shravan K. Chunduri, Michael Schmela Executive Summary Executive SummaryTaiyangNews launched a monthly feature 3 years agocalled TOP SOLAR MODULES, to address the evolvingefficiencies of market-ready products. Additionally,TaiyangNews has been publishing reports summarizing theinsights from the TOP SOLAR MODULES list. This latestreport, the 5thedition, encompasses key findings from ananalysis of the last 24 editions covering 2023 and 2024. comprehension, we have split product data from the last2 years into 4 efficiency bands: above 22.5%, 22% to22.5%, 21.7% to 22%, and 21.5% to 21.7% (see Chapter4). We have also provided insights into how the productnumbers in these efficiency bands have changed overthe last 2 years. In addition, we have also provided agraphical representation detailing the efficiency progressof companies. As with the previous reports, this report also primarilyanalyzes efficiency, the key performance attribute of asolar module. Efficiency data has been analyzed withrespect to various parameters such as efficiency range, cell technologies, and the progress of different companies. While not as extensive as efficiency, we have alsoprovided a basic power analysis. The number of productsand the count of companies supplying them increasedsince we started in 2022 till H1 2024. However, the productcount seems to have started on a downtrend in H2 2024.Just considering the 2 ends of the 2-year period though, product count has gone up from 34 to 53 while the numberof companies have increased from 23 to 33 (see chapter3.1). It is also interesting to see how the efficiency of productsimproved when grouped under 4 commercially availablecell technologies – IBC, HJT, TOPCon, and PERC. Inaddition to analyzing the statistics of the number ofcompanies and their development, we have also providedinsights into efficiency bands of different cell technologies. We also provide a graphical glimpse of the companies'efficiency progress under each of the 4 technologiesmentioned above to cover the whole efficiencydevelopment landscape (see Chapter 5). To complement our efficiency analysis, we have alsoprovided the power analysis of TOP SOLAR MODULES,which is also extracted from the TOP SOLAR MODULESlist. As with efficiency, we have divided the products into3 power classes for ease of analysis – less than 500 W,500 to 600 W, and above 600 W. The highest power classof > 600 W is gaining share at least in the TOP SOLARMODULES listing. Similar to efficiency, we have alsopresented the top power ratings over the last 2 years andalso the top power of each cell technology. Overall, HJT isthe power leader and Huasun is offering the most powerfulcommercial module with a rated 720 W as of now.The report also includes summary tables elaborating onthe efficiency and power advancements achieved by eachcompany featured in the TOP SOLAR MODULES section(see Chapter 7 for details). In absolute terms, the highest module efficiency saw animprovement of only 0.2% during 2024. However, whenevaluating the last 2 years, the progress is significant witha growth of 1.4% absolute. Once again, AIKO remainedthe efficiency leader, increasing the top efficiency thriceduring the last 2 years, from 23.6% to 24.2%. By theend of 2024, the top 3 efficiency ranks have become anIBC fortress represented by AIKO, Maxeon and LONGi.However, Huasun’s HJT module did make a mark byclaiming the 3rdrank for itself between September 2023and April 2024. Now there are 4 products with efficienciesabove 23% and 2 above 24% (see chapter 3.2). We alsolooked into the progress of top efficiencies within each ofthe 4 major commercially available cell technologies: IBC,HJT, TOPCon, and PERC. Their best efficiencies by theend of 2024 were 24.2%, 23.18%, 23% and 21.7% forthese technologies, respectively. A somewhat interestingdevelopment is TOPCon reaching the 23% efficiencybenchmark (see chapter 3.3). As a further development of our TOP SOLAR MODULESlisting, which has grown extensively over the last 2.5years, we have created an annual EFFICIENCY LEADERSlist. Those module manufacturers featured in the top 10 ofthe TOP SOLAR MODULES list for at least 6 months of acalendar year can lay a claim for this badge of excellence(see box on page 7 for details).
