Conflict, climatechange, and global disruptions continue tocreate new obstacles or exacerbate existingones, threatening progress on the 2030 Agendafor Sustainable Development and the 17Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Conflict remains one of the major challenges in theArab region, severely impacting progress on theattainment of peace and stability. Its far-reachingconsequences also impede progress on otherdevelopment fronts, including eradicating poverty,reducing inequalities, and combating hunger andrisk reversing gains in health and education.At the same time, climate change is exacerbatingrisks to sustainable development. The Arab regionis among the most vulnerable to climate change,facing rising temperatures, extreme heat, floods,storms, droughts, and erratic precipitationpatterns. These changes create a range of risks,including not only physical damage from climatedisasters but also major social and economicadverse impacts. Compounded with unsustainablemanagement of natural resources, these climatechange impacts pose a direct threat, exacerbatingalready pronounced food insecurity and waterscarcity in the region.Beyond regional challenges, the Arab region isalso navigating the lingering effects of globalcrises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and theeconomic fallout from the war in Ukraine. Thepandemic exacerbated existing socio-economicdisparities, hindering progress toward greater6 Simultaneously, global conflicts have triggered foodprice spikes and economic losses, further impactingeconomic growth and decent work opportunities, as well asresponsible consumption and production patterns.Considering these cascading crises, building resilienceis an imperative.
