In an age shaped by rapid changes, design shows us not only how to understandthese changes but how to actively and creatively shape them. It challenges us to thinkin visionary ways, to assume responsibility and foster dialogue between the variousdisciplines – for a world in which people are at the foreground and technology, theeconomy, nature and politics work together in harmony.It has been evident for some time that increasingly abstract forms of knowledgeplay a role in design. In addition to the integrative use of innovations and technology,expanded forms of the user experience and sustainability, these also include valueorientation, interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to conceptualize possiblefutures and to reflect on these.This is where the 2025 iF Design Trend Report, published for the fourth time byiF Design in cooperation with The Future:Project, comes in. It again provides a holisticview of interdisciplinary design trends and relates these to important technologicaland societal developments. The report analyzes how AI-assisted systems and artificialempathy create new opportunities for interactive and empathetic user experiences.It sheds light on how a diversified understanding of prosperity paves new paths toincreased economic and social justice and includes immaterial components such asquality of life, social participation and ecological sustainability.MENUFOREWORD We conducted a broad analysis across various industries in a multi-step research pro-cess, combining expert perspectives and findings from our 2025 iF DESIGN AWARD.With almost 11,000 submissions from nearly 70 countries, the iF DESIGN AWARD onceagain offers an expansive and profound look at how the design world is developingand how design is shaping the world.
