The CPPTF welcomedand endorsed GCP Collective Reporting on SustainableCoffee Purchases as a mechanism to monitor progresson purchases and to increase market transparency inmeasurable ways, contributing to the ICO Roadmap 2030.GCP acknowledges this recognition and ICO’s efforts topromote further participation in GCP Collective Reportingto strengthen existing sustainability efforts in the sector. The report provides key insights into overall progress,diversity of origins sourced from and key information aboutdifferent sustainability schemes. The Global Coffee Platform’s (GCP) Members rally behindthe shared goal of transformational change for theprosperity of more than one million coffee farmers by2030. To reach this goal, GCP works through a strategythat targets the global and local level: Both parts are strongly interlinked to foster sustainablecoffee production with resilient farming systems on theone side while increasing the demand for sustainablecoffee and moving the sector towards sustainablesourcing in ways that reflect the shared responsibilityfor sustainability on the other. GCP invites all roasters and retailers to join this collectiveapproach, report transparently and further exploreand collaborate on innovative solutions to acceleratesustainable supply chain evolution in ways that betterreflect shared responsibility for sustainability. GCP also appreciates the important contribution totransparency on sustainability commitments through theperiodical publication of the Coffee Barometer, as wellas the Sustainable Coffee Challenge Annual Report, andencourages its members to engage and contribute theirinsights to these complementary publications. 1.Collective Action for Farmer Prosperity2.Towards Sustainable Sourcing. Supporting this drive, robust partnerships, includingpublic-private collaboration, are essential. GCP has Transformational change onfarmers’ prosperity for morethan one million coffee farmersin more than 10 countries. Evolution of GCP’s Collective Reporting Over the past six years, this report has undergoneimportant developments, seeing an increase in roastersand retailers reporting more transparently. At the sametime, more sustainability schemes have been successfullyassessed through the GCP Equivalence Mechanism andrecognized as equivalent to the Coffee SustainabilityReference Code (Coffee SR Code), either 3rdparty or2ndparty assurance. Recognition gives the schemeseligibility to be reported on by roasters and retailers. Theresulting publications saw yearly expansion on the numberand uptake of these sustainability schemes, as well asadditional insights and visuals. The 2023 edition includesthe following changes and developments: equivalent to the Coffee SR Code that were eligiblefor 2023 reporting has increased to 19, of which fourare 3rdparty assurance and 15 are 2ndparty assurance.Acknowledging the diversity and difference of thesesustainability schemes while they are all GCP recognized,this years’ report provides more information abouteach sustainability scheme. Importantly, the voluntarysustainability schemes with 3rdparty assurance againprovide more transparency by sharing their coffee 2023data publicly, which is included on page 49.
