Trusted skill insights fora rapidly changing world Foreword While skill rankings are crucial, they are notthe sole indicators of advancement. There areseveral countries that have witnessed a surgein new learners coming online for the first time,including those with basic skills. It may reducetheir ranking in the short term, but it signalsmajor strides towards a digitized workforce.Institution-led initiatives are expected to boostthe nations’ skills rankings as more individualsgain access to essential skills. I’m delighted to present the sixth annualGlobal Skills Report, which has become a trustedresource for leaders and institutions worldwideas they navigate the rapidly changing skillslandscape. The report draws on data and insightsfrom our global learning community—includingover 148 million learners and 7,000 institutionalcustomers—and content from 325 of the world’sleading university and industry partners. The report captures several significant trendsdriven by GenAI, digital transformation, andautomation. Notably, in 2023, a learner signedup for a GenAI course on Coursera everyminute; by 2024, this rate had quadrupled. Anastounding 1,060% year-over-year increasein global GenAI course enrollments highlightshow learners are actively preparing for AI’simpact on their careers. Improved technicalskill rankings in regions like Latin America andthe Caribbean reinforce the global appetitefor acquiring digital skills as a way to achievegreater economic mobility. The rise of generative AI (GenAI) underscoresthe pressing need for new and innovativestrategies to build a competitive workforce. Jobsand industries stand on the cusp of profoundtransformation, with two-thirds of jobs exposedto some degree of automation1and GenAI poisedto deliver $4.4 trillion in productivity gains tothe global economy.2In response, businesses,governments, and higher education institutionsmust coordinate their efforts to equip peoplewith critical skills. We trust this report will provide actionableinsights for leaders, inspire collaborationamong institutions, and contribute to afuture where access to high-qualitylearning empowers everyone. Several factors may influence a country’s skillranking.
