Meanwhile, Shanghai is now ranked in secondplace in the ISCDI, rising continuously sincethe index’s inception to become the pinnacle ofChina’s maritime centres. Meanwhile, Londonand Hong Kong’s historical legacies in globalshippingand their continued importance tomaritime services have secured them third andfourth place, respectively, in this year’s rankings.Dubai, with its burgeoning maritime cluster, hasonce again filled out the top five for the ninthstraight year. Since its inception, the ISCDI has become oneof the most renowned independent reports fortheperformance of the world’s largest citiesthat offer port and shipping business services.Alongside our dedicated reports of the top 20maritime centres in the world each year, theISCDI details some of the key events, issues andtrendsimpacting the international maritimesector in the previous year. Whilethis year’s ISCDI showcases the same20 maritime centres as it did last year, therehavebeen some notable movements in therankings that indicate the changing dynamicsofinternational shipping.Ningbo-Zhoushanhas overtaken Rotterdam to become the sixthhighest ranked shipping centre, while New York& New Jersey has risen two places to overtakeAthens and Hamburg in the rankings.
