The annual state of Earth-positivebusiness action Introduction The health of the economy and the health of the Earthare inextricably linked.1Climate inaction could reduceglobal gross domestic product (GDP) by 18%, or aboutUS$38 trillion, by 2050.2While the threat is becomingmore evident with each passing year, greenhousegas emissions continue to rise, and economic growthchips away at nature. The 2025 snapshot of business progress finds that: 1 Too few companies are showing ambition.Only onein 10 companies are embedding Earth-positive decision-making throughout their business models, with toomany in the lowest level of the Health Check or justmeeting the minimum. To help quantify how effectively large corporations areintegrating Earth-positive decisions into their businessmodels, CDP has developed an annual corporatehealth check, in collaboration with Oliver Wyman andthe World Economic Forum. The indicators for theCorporate Health Check were developed as part of theWorld Economic Forum’s State of Nature and Climatepublication. This report — done in collaboration withCDP and the Potsdam Institute of Climate ImpactResearch (PIK) — places the latest data on planetaryhealth next to data on corporate action. 2 Corporate transparency is leading to climate andnature action.Health Check companies disclosingthrough CDP in recent years cut emissions by 2% perannum, even as global emissions rose 1% annually.Still, only one in three businesses are on track to meettheir own emissions targets, with European companiesahead of those in other regions. 3 Bringing the planet into the boardroom is critical. Companies making the most progress are those thatmost effectively pull key governance and strategy levers, including the eight in 10 frontrunners linking executivepay to climate goals. Since 2000, environmental disclosure through CDPhas provided unparalleled insights into the businessresponse to the challenges our planet faces. Today, nearly 25,000 companies representing 67% of globalmarket capitalization disclose through CDP. Thisreport assesses the current state of climate andnature progress of the most impactful among them.It finds only 10% of these companies demonstratetangible action to address the climate and natureemergency, with just 1% reaching the highest levelassessed. These companies on track to deliver theirtargets are successfully pulling four key businesslevers by integrating their disclosure data into theirgovernance and strategy. Disclosure alone is animportant first step, but businesses must pull otherlevers using this data to drive Earth-positive action. 4 Protecting the planet while pursuing profit ispossible.Businesses that see the advantage ofsustainability are reducing their impacts and remainingcompetitive in the market at the same time. The inaugural CDP Corporate Health Check showsthat companies taking a leadership position can drivechange. But many more companies need to increasetheir ambition and action to cut emissions and addressnature impacts. And policymakers need to createthe conditions to support and reward Earth-positivedecision-making. About the CDP Corporate Health Check The CDP Corporate Health Check assesses business progress across five critical climate and nature areas:disclosure, target setting, governance, strategy and progress. Companies are assessed on aggregate andassigned one of four levels —Level 1: Falling Behind,Level 2: Meeting the Minimum, Level 3: ShowingAmbitionandLevel 4: Charting Changebased on their disclosure through CDP in 2024. The indicators coveredhave been informed by the demands of global reporting standards and frameworks. Advancement acrosseach level illustrates that companies are engaging with key elements of incoming regulatory requirements andstakeholder expectations. Key indicators included in the assessment are listed in Figure 2 below. Earth-positive means acting in ways that protectand restore the environment andreduce negative impacts on the planet, alongside achieving business objectives. A shortage ofambition 1.A shortage of ambition Just one in 10 companies are embedding Earth-positive decision-making across their business. Most companies are falling behind whatthe most robust regulation and the planet demand. The CDP Corporate Health Check is a newannual assessment of business progress acrossfive critical areas: disclosure, target setting, governance, strategy and progress. Just 10%of companies are assessed in the higher Levels3 and 4 of the Health Check, which representtangible action across all areas. The higherlevels include transparently reporting their fullemissions and nature impacts, setting relevantenvironmental targets, putting in place robustgovernance, and establishing climate andnature strategies that deliver progress. Thesmall group of companies leading in the HealthCheck account for nearly 20% of the total marketcapitalization assessed. The 2025 CDP Corporate Health Check revealsthat just under half (49%) of disclosing
