Definitions In this report, the following definitions apply: Micro-entrepreneur: A self-employed individual working either full-time or part-time, with fewer than nine employees (paid orunpaid). Micro-entrepreneurs may work formally or informally. Mobile owner: “Mobile phone owner” and “mobile owner” are used interchangeably in this reportto mean a person who hassole or main use of a SIM card (or mobile phone thatdoes not require a SIM) and uses it at least once a month. The vastmajority ofSIM owners also have sole or main use of a handset. Mobile-for-business user: A mobile-for-business user is a micro-entrepreneur who reports having used a mobile phone tosupport their business. This could be by using their own mobile phone or borrowing someone else’s. Business use includesmobile use by both microentrepreneurs themselves and by any of their employees to support the business. Mobile gender gap: The gender gap in mobile phone ownershipand mobile internet use is calculatedusing the following formula: Mobile Internet user: A person who has used the internet on a mobile phone at least once in the pastthree months. Mobileinternet users do not have to personally own a mobilephone. Therefore, they can be non-mobile phone owners who usemobileinternet by accessing it on someone else’s mobile phone. Introduction Quantitative research:920micro-entrepreneurs in Pakistanwere surveyed on theirownership and use of mobile phonesforbusiness, and the barriers they faceas part of the annualquantitative GSMA Consumer Survey. This nationallyrepresentative survey of theadult population (aged 18 and over)was conductedbetween September and December 2022.Thequestions for micro-entrepreneurs were asked toanyrespondent who reported being self-employed(either full-time orpart-time) and had noemployees or fewer than nine (paid orunpaid).To achieve a larger sample size of micro-entrepreneurs,a booster sample of 500 microentrepreneurs was included usi
