The persistentappetite for European tourism – from both intraregionaland overseas markets – boosts growth in the region, and Virtuallyall 22 ETC members reporting internationaltourism data through March-June show continued growthinto 2014 (figure in the middle). Overnights persistentlygrow at a more moderate pace than arrivals, as demandforshorter breaks outside the main holiday season Nordic countries are set to grow fast, after a few years ofsubduedactivity in the region.Iceland continues itsstronggrowth(+31%)and outpaces the noteworthydouble-digitgrowth of Sweden(+12%)and Denmark Balticcountries also rank among the fastest-growingdestinations, with Latvia and Lithuania (both at +17%)postingdouble-digitgrowth.Thelatterachievedsignificant increases in 7 out of 10 of its largest source In the Balkans, improved air capacity boosts internationaltourist arrivals to Serbia (+15%), while Croatia (+11%)benefits from the recovery of the Italian market. Compared to the same period in 2013, outbound tourism grew by 5%, and expenditure was up by an encouraging 13%1.Similar dynamics canbe observed in the French market, despite a persistently stagnating economy.
