A.ATTENDANCE AND ORGANIZATION OF WORK Place and date of the meeting 1.The special meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Social Developmentin Latin America and the Caribbean was held virtually on 24 March 2025. Attendance The meeting was attended by representatives of the following member countries in their capacityas Presiding Officers: Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica and Panama. 3.Alsoattending were representatives of the following member countries of the EconomicCommission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC): Antigua and Barbuda, Costa Rica, Cuba,Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, 4.The following associate members of ECLAC also participated: Anguilla, British Virgin Islandsand Montserrat. C.SUMMARY OF PROCEEDINGS Opening session 7.Statements were made by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of ECLAC, andJaviera Toro, Minister of Social Development and Family Affairs of Chile, in her capacity as Chair of thePresiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean. 8.In his introductory remarks, the Executive Secretary of ECLAC said that the documentLatin Americaand the Caribbean Looking Ahead to the Second World Summit for Social Development: Proposals forInclusive Social Developmentreflected the region’s strong commitment to multilateral cooperation on endingpoverty and hunger and reducing inequality. The document contained proposals for countries to take effective,transformative steps towards inclusive social development, and focused not only on the desired outcomes butalso on how to achieve them. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the institutional framework for 9.The Minister of Social Development and Family Affairs of Chile, in her capacity as Chair of thePresiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean,said that both the efforts to support fulfilment of the 2030 Agenda and the Conference’s work were essentialfor ensuring that the voice of Latin America and the Caribbean was heard at the Second World Summit forSocial Development. Consideration of the region’s key messages for the Second World Summit for Social Development (agendaitem 3) 12.The Minister for Social Development and Assistance, Family Affairs and the Fight against Hungerof Brazil said that the document, which was aimed at fostering a more just, inclusive and sustainable future,expressed the region’s needs and aspirations. He reaffirmed the need to strengthen the region’s participationin global initiatives and to share best practices in the area of social protection and food security programmes.Innovation and collaboration were critical to eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities.
