Foreword This 2024 edition of the OECD’s Global Insurance Market Trends provides an overview and assessmentof developments in the insurance industry in2023, using data from the OECD Global Insurance Statistics(GIS)database. For several decades, the OECD has collected and analysed data on insurance markets in membercountries, including on the number of active companies and their employees, insurance premiums andpayments, and portfolio investments. Over time, the frameworkforthisglobal statisticalexercise has cometo include key itemsfromthe balance sheet and income statement of direct insurers and reinsurers. The geographical reach of theGISdatabase has expandedover time. In addition to OECD countries,italso covers a number of non-OECD Latin American(throughco-operationwith the Association of LatinAmerican Insurance Supervisors, ASSAL),Asianand other jurisdictions. TheGlobal Insurance Market TrendsreportandGISdatabaseprovidea rich source of comparable cross-country data on insurance markets.
