In Q3 2022, the market share of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the EU increased to 11.9% from 9.8% in Q3 2021, while hybrid electric vehicles gained market share to 22.6% from 21.2%. Despite this, diesel and petrol-powered vehicles still dominate the market with a combined share of 54.3%. Sales of petrol cars decreased by 3.3% to 823,360 units sold, while diesel car sales decreased by 4.7% to 360,596 units sold. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) recorded the strongest growth of all fuel types (+22.0%), with 259,449 units registered across the EU, except for Denmark (-2.6%) and Italy (-35.0%). Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) also saw growth, with a market share of 2.7% in Q3 2022.
