The fifth edition of theFuture Opportunities Report: The Global 50is bothan invitation to think differently and a practical tool for identifying theopportunities that can reshape growth, unlock new engines of prosperity, andimprove quality of life around the world. We are living through an extraordinary moment in history. Economic modelsare being redefined, technological progress is being fast-tracked, and theboundaries of what is possible continue to expand. What we are witnessingtoday is the beginning of an entirely new chapter in human history. In this newera, governments and institutions have a greater responsibility than ever toshape change – investing in opportunities before they become reality. This report highlights 50 global opportunities that represent new pathwaysfor growth; ideas with the potential to become transformative projects, andpossibilities that can improve lives at scale. Opportunities do not simplyemerge; they are created. They begin with a clear vision, bold decisions, andthe ability to turn ideas into tangible impact. The report is designed as a practical resource for decision-makers, aplatform for innovators, and a roadmap for everyone committed to building abetter future. The future is not shaped by ideal circumstances. It is shaped by people whorecognise opportunity within uncertainty, who see challenges as the startingpoint for new paths to progress and growth. Every future opportunity is aninvitation to think differently, act boldly, and believe that tomorrow can bebetter than we imagine. This year, 2026, marks the publication of its fifth edition. Exploring near-term futures helps us navigate immediate challenges andopportunities. Exploring long-term futures, however, is critical to excellence.Futures-focused thinking helps expand the imagination and generate both near-and long-term ideas about what is plausible and desirable. Foresight does noteliminate uncertainty; it helps us navigate it. We use The Global 50 to share our view of the global future. While the perceivedbenefits of ‘predicting’ the future, such as informing policy, mobilising support, provoking engagement and storytelling, help decision-makers feel a senseof certainty, the past four editions have emphasised the need to imagine andnavigate the uncertain future through opportunities – some within reach, sometransitional and some visionary. We have often been asked about what comes next once future opportunitiesare identified, and to help determine approximate implementation timelines. Inresponse, we shifted the conversation this year from ideas to action. We exploredopportunities through the lens of value creation for future growth, prosperityand well-being, and the mechanisms needed to capture that value and realiseassociated benefits. However, we still do not give an estimate of the speed atwhich each opportunity might materialise, because it depends on underlyingmechanisms and the right conditions for change, including maturity of necessarytechnologies. At the same time, we recognise that unpacking the ‘how’ of future opportunitiesmust include funding, otherwise an idea remains aspirational. To this end, wewent back to the innovation literature to explore ways to approach funding –underpinned by a new
