Chapter 1 describes the methodologies used to collect, validate, and harmonize energy dataacross the region. It also outlines the procedures for generating secondary datasets—includingenergy balances and related statistical tables—and explains the preparation of socio‑economicindicators. Chapter 2 provides an analytical overview of energy supply and demand in the APEC region. Itincludes figures and tables illustrating key trends, structural changes, and emerging patterns inregional energy use. Chapter 3 presents annual statistical tables for each member economy. These include energybalance data for 2022 and 2023, as well as energy price series from 2010 to 2023. The chapteralsofeatures major energy indicators—such as total primary energy supply,final energyconsumption, and supply and demand by source—alongside essential economic indicators,including population, GDP, balance of payments, foreign exchange rates, purchasing power parity,and price indices. Historical data extend back to 1990,with emphasis on the most recent availablefigures. The APEC Energy Statistics 2023 draws on the APEC Energy Database, which aims to providea comprehensive and consistent statistical foundation for understanding energy developmentsacross the region. The database supports analysis of key trends aligned with APEC EnergyWorking Group priorities, including energy intensity improvement and doubling the share ofrenewable energy in total primary energy supply and consumption. Its preparation relies on closecollaboration with all member economies.
