Executive Summary “ The growing capabilities of AI—particularly Large Language Modelsand generative AI systems—are placing unprecedented pressureon education systems and forcing a deeper question: what does itmean to be people and active citizens, and a society of care whenmachines can increasingly mimic our work, our knowledge, and Non-Negotiable Human Skills unprecedentedspeed.As large language models andgenerative AI become increasingly integrated into teaching,learning, and assessment, education systems face a deeperquestion: not only how to adapt to these tools, but what or compromised as AI penetrates teaching and learningdimensions. These are the capacities AI cannot and shouldnot replace—and which education must actively protect,teach, and practice. As AI grows increasingly capable, thequestion is no longer what AI systems can do—but whatremains irreducibly human. These are not only soft skills;they are the cognitive, emotional, and moral capacities thatmake us effective, ethical, and fully alive. Education systems AI depends on protecting and strengthening non-negotiablehuman skills: the capacities for judgment, creativity, ethicalreasoning, empathy, and reflection that remain essentialtohuman development,responsible citizenship,andmeaningful work.
