Türkiye is among the countries with highest obesityprevalence in the world. More than one-third of adults are living with obesitytoday, and projections indicate that more than half of the adult populationcould be living with obesity by 2035. This trajectory is expected to significantlyincrease the burden of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other non-communicable diseases while also creating substantial economic pressure onthe healthcare system. This underscores the urgency of coordinated long-termpolicy and system responses. This white paper presents a comprehensiveassessment of the obesity ecosystem in Türkiye, combining epidemiology, public policy frameworks, healthcare delivery pathways, patient and healthcareprofessional insights, and market dynamics. The treatment landscape in Türkiye is evolving rapidly, parallel to changes in global environment. Lifestyleinterventions remain the cornerstone of obesitymanagement, while pharmacological therapiesparticularly GLP-1 treatments are increasinglyreshaping clinical practice. Physician insights revealgrowing confidence in obesity medicines, supportedby accumulated experience and emerging globalguidelines. At the same time, affordability issuesand limited post-prescription support remain keychallenges affecting treatment initiation, adherence, and long-term continuation. Endocrinologists, internists and cardiologists are taking active role inthe management of obesity while family physiciansmainly focus on screening and referral. Obesity has anon-linear, multi-entry care pathway, with pharmacistsemerging as increasingly important stakeholderswithin the obesity ecosystem due to frequentpatient interaction and high accessibility. However, pharmacists currently operate within a structurallyunderdefined role despite their growing influence ontreatment continuation and patient behavior. Obesity is recognized as a chronic disease leadingto a wide range of diseases and is considered asignificant public health challenge by Ministry ofHealth. Türkiye has established a national action planincluding a prevention infrastructure through primarycare screening and awareness programs, supportedwith a network of Healthy Life Centers.
