Asian Asset Owners’ Perspectivestowards Sustainable Investing:ASIFMAPulse Survey Results ASIFMA(Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association)is an independent,regional trade association with over 150member firms comprising a diverse range of leadingfinancial institutions from both the buy and sell side,including banks, asset managers,accounting and law firms, and market infrastructure service providers. Together, we harness the shared interests of the financial industry to promote thedevelopment of liquid, deep and broad capital markets in Asia. ASIFMA advocates stable,innovative and competitive Asian capital markets that are necessary to support the region’seconomic growth. We drive consensus, advocate solutions and effect change around keyissues through the collective strength and clarity of one industry voice. Our many initiativesinclude consultations with regulators and exchanges, development of uniform industrystandards, advocacy for enhanced markets through policy papers, and lowering the cost ofdoing business in the region. ASIFMA Asset Management Group (AAMG)was established over a decade ago to representspecifically the interests and concerns of asset managers in the region. It focuseson issuesthat have regional and global impact and / or cross-border implications, such as marketaccess, investments, regulations, taxes, etc. Through the GFMA alliance with SIFMA in the U.S. and AFME in Europe, ASIFMA also providesinsights on global best practices and standards to benefit the region. Meanwhile, Asiaisattracting agrowing share of global capital and is home to some of the world’s largest andmost influential asset owners, placing it in a critical and unique position to invest and shapethe climate and social outcomes of the future. Despitethis importance,there islimiteddataon how Asia’s asset owners view and approach sustainable investing. ASIFMA Asset Management Group(AAMG)hasset out to bridge this gap through theASIFMA Asian Asset Owner Pulse Survey on Sustainable Investing. Through the surveyconducted between June and September 2025, we gathered insights from more than 50 assetowners–typically chief investment officersofinsurance companies, pension funds, sovereignwealth funds, endowments and family officesacross the region. The goal was simple butambitious: to better understand sentiment, challenges, and prioritieson howinstitutionalinvestors embed sustainability into their mandates. Thesurvey results,complemented by follow-on in-depth interviews with selectedrespondents,reveal that Asia’s sentiment and demand for sustainableinvesting have stoodup well as a region, with risk management recognised as a key incentive and driver,andsupported by regionaljurisdictionalpolicies. This aligns with climate change being cited as thetop issueforasset owners, as it poses both material risks and opportunities to theirinvestments. However,respondents also noted a lack of investment opportunities,insufficientsustainability data, and policy/regulatory uncertainty as key barriers to implementing theirsustainable investing strategies. In the report, weidentified five recommendationsfor assetowners and policy makersto address investor challenges.
