Each paper offers a practical, executive-level viewof what transformation looks like on the ground, drawing on real-world case studies, leadingpractices, emerging data from across industries andfigures of impact achievable in selected contexts. While each paper is standalone, common themesemerge: new operating models, evolving roles ofleadership, human-AI collaboration and the growingimportance of AI governance and orchestration. As AI adoption accelerates, this series aims to equipleaders with the insight, capabilities and decisionframeworks required to build competitive, responsibleand future-ready AI-enabled organizations. This white paper series examines thetransformative role of AI across industries, combining cross-industry analysis with in-depth sectoral and regional perspectives. Across industries and regions, organizationsare moving beyond experimentation anddemonstrating tangible results from AI adoption.Yet as organizations unlock value from isolated AIuse cases, a deeper transformation remains elusive:embedding AI into the core processes that definehow work gets done and how decisions are madeacross enterprises. from supporting analysis to participating directlyin execution. In this environment, organizationsmust redefine the relationship between peopleand intelligent systems, ensuring that humanjudgement, responsibility and oversight remainfirmly at the centre. The World Economic Forum has long championedcollaborative approaches to complex systemicchallenges. In this spirit, the findings presentedhere are rooted in cross-industry practice andreflect the collective experience of organizationsat the forefront of AI transformation. They alsoreaffirm a central insight: success with AI isnot merely a technological achievement, butan organizational one. It depends on strategicleadership, clear accountability, trust in AI-supported decisions and operating models thatbalance human agency with machine intelligence. This paper reframes the challenge facing leaderstoday: not whether AI works, but how organizationsmust re-architect their workflows, operating modelsand decision rights to harness AI as a sourceof sustained enterprise advantage. To date, much of AI’s impact has been deliveredthrough targeted applications and functionalpilots. These efforts have proven that AIworks – but they capture only a fraction of itspotential. The greatest gains arise when AI isembedded into core workflows, decision-makingprocesses and operating models, reshapinghow organizations compete and grow. Achievingthis shift is not a primarily technological challenge, but an organizational one. This white paper is part of the World EconomicForum’sIndustries in the Intelligent Ageseries andbuilds on the insights from the AI Transformationof Industries community.
