Aboutthesurvey In this survey, we explore the topic of travel riskmanagement, focusing on travelers’ experiences on theroad and safety support measures provided byemployers. The results are based on an online survey of 1,284business travelers worldwide. We conducted the surveyin November 2025. Risky behaviors Frequent traveler behaviors include usingunsecure Wi-Fi, walking alone at night and drivingwhile fatigued. Almost a quarter of business travelers reported feelingunsafe due to exhaustion from long trips. Hotel safety Most travelers feel safewhen staying at hotelsincluded in theircorporate travelprogram. Safetyofothersuppliers Ride-hailing services, traditional taxis and public transportation rank high in safety perception, whilemicromobility options such as scooters or bikes are viewed as least safe. Similarly, budget hotels andlow-cost airlines are considered unsafe by over half of the sample. Bookingdecisions Booking channels Most travelers trust their company’s booking channels,although 45% admit booking outside these channels attimes. Two-thirds of travelers feel empowered to changetravel bookings they perceive as unsafe, yet 10%proceed despite their concerns. Emergencycontact Asking for help 18% of travelers have hesitated to seek help, uncertainif their situation was serious enough. About 30% are unsure whom to contact in case ofa travel emergency. Trip cancellations Reasons for decline Destination-related risks, such as political unrest ornatural disasters, were among the top reasons for tripcancellations, followed by personal security concerns,recent incidents at the destination, and health issues. Safety concernsprompted 11% oftravelers to canceltrips. Negative career impact One in five thinkrefusing a trip forsafety reasons couldharm their career. Incidentsupport Most travelers feel well-supported during riskincidents, with 66%highly rating theircompany response andonly 7% reportingminimal or no support. Risk incidents Type of incident Weather conditions were named as the most frequentreason for the experienced incidents. In the past year, 8%of travelersexperienced anincident requiringcompany support. Company response While support was effective in most cases, 13%reported no response or ineffective assistance. Employerrisk management I am confident my company could locate andassist me quickly in a crisis. Safetyapps Frequency of use Two-thirds can access safety information via bookingapps and one-third have dedicated risk apps at theirdisposal. Nine in 10 use these apps, although their usagefrequency varies. Trust in Artificial Intelligence 33% would trust AI tools to provide reliable safetyinformation. Employerresources Companies provide employees with various measures to ensure safe travel. Common safety resources includeflexible travel options, 24/7 emergency support, risk alerts and company phones with roaming. Among resourcesnot currently offered, 30% of travelers would like to receive relevant pre-trip destination information. Employerconsiderationoftravelercharacteristics Travelercharacteristicstobeconsidered There’s a notable gap between traveler expectationsand employer practices. Nearly half of travelersconsider health and accessibility needs important,yet only about 20% of employers account for them. Six in 10 travelers are unsure what personalcharacteristics employers consider when managingtravel risks. Among those they are aware of, healthconditions and accessibility rank the highest.
