Despite geopolitical tensions and terror attacks since 2015, the One in two reporting destinations experienced an increase in international touristarrivalsin excess of 10%, with destinations previously affected by safetyconcerns recovering. Turkey (+26%) saw a skyrocketing rebound helped by thesurge in Russian arrivals, based on data to August. Iceland (+30%), saw fastestgrowthdespite lingering concerns about accommodation capacity andinfrastructureconstraints.Southern/Mediterranean destinations,Slovenia,Serbia (both +19%), Malta (+17%) and Cyprus (+15%) enjoyed a hike in the Data to June for Belgium (+12%) indicates a strong recovery, while Ireland (+3%)saw only modest growth in arrivals mainly due to the falls registered from the BUMPY RIDE FOR MAJOR EUROPEAN AIRLINES In Europe, Revenue Passenger Kilometres (RPKs) grew by 8.7% in the firsteight months of the year alongside positive indicators in airline capacity(+6.6%). Growth is mostly strong between Europe and Asia helped by newcapacity on European routes while a strong dollar continues to boost growthbetween Europe and the Americas. Despite positive indicators, the impact on SOLID GROWTH IN EUROPE SUPPORTED BY LARGE INTRA-EUROPEAN Key intra-European source markets (UK, France, and Germany) continue todrive growth in arrivals in many destinations across Europe. A weaker poundfollowing the Brexit vote, and the consequent surge in travel costs, have largelyfailed to deter UK travellers to travel internationally. 24 out of 32 reportingdestinations posted growth in arrivals from the UK so far in 2017.
