It’s ajob creator, contributes significantly to economicdevelopment, supports local communities, and enriches the lifestyle in your destination. At the same time, tourism is amajor driver of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissionsand a cause of global warming.Drastic climate change phenomena such as snowless winters or severe floods, extreme drought and forest firesarethreatening Europe’s status as a leading tourist destination.Tackling climate change is one of the biggestchallenges that the European tourism industry is currently facing. Accelerating climate action in tourism is a priority to maintain Europe’sposition as a leading sustainable tourism destination. Rapidly growing emissions in the tourism sector are endangering not only theplanet but also the tourism industry itself. The cost of inaction with regards toclimate change will be greater than the cost of any other crisis.
