FOREWORD
Indiastands at the cusp of a transformative mobility revolution. The globalmomentum towards sustainable transportation presents a timely and compellingopportunity for our nation to leapfrog conventional trajectories and position itself as afront.runner in clean, connected, and shared qiobility solutions. At the forefront of thistrarjsition lies electric mobility-a vital enabler for advancing our energy security, 1climate commitments, and industrial aspirations.
The Government of India has taken bold and strategic measures to accelerate theadoption of electric vehicles (EVs), deploying targeted policy interventions, financialincentives, and mission-driven initiatives. Programmes such as the Faster Adoptionand Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) Scheme, the ProductionLinked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cells, and concerted effortsto localise battery manufacturing underscore our resolve to build a robust and futureready transport ecosystem. Encouragingly, several Indian states have emerged astrailblazers, crafting forward-looking EV policies, investing in charging infrastructure, and fostering innovation and investment at the local level. This growing synergybetween central and state-level action is essential to the creation of a coherent andscalable EV ecosystem.
The India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) is a pioneering initiative designed to bolsterelectrification efforts at the sub-national level. By evaluating the progress of electricmobility across states and union territories, the IEMI captures the richness of statelevel strategies and the strength of regional ambition. It serves as a valuable tool forpolicymakers, providing insights that can inform targeted action and drivecol!aborative progress.
I extend my sincere appreciation to the Electric Mobility team at NITI Aayog and theWorld Resources Institute(WRI).for their vision, diligence, and partnership indeveloping this important dashboard and its robust methodology. We look forward toworking closely with states to harness the insights of the IEMI and accelerate India'sjourney towards a cleaner and more sustainable transport future.
