Every year since, we have produced thisreport to provide an update on progress, highlight successes and identify areas that require even moreconsiderable effort. The experience of the last five years pulls into verysharp focus the ten-year road still ahead of us, until2030. And so we must ask in this year’s report – howhave we done? And what areas do we need to continue, reinforce, adjust or rethink for the Decade of Actionthat we are entering? rate is lower than in developed markets, we areseeing that the poorest and most vulnerable peopleare disproportionately affected by this pandemic.Mobile operators have continued to innovate inaddressing the digital divide, providing access to vitalinformation, including health and education regardlessof geography. SDG 4: Quality Education is wherethe mobile industry has achieved its most improvedcontribution over the last five years. There is no denying the fact that as a society we arecurrently not on track to achieve the SDGs, and thatthe ten years ahead are going to be difficult, uphillevery step of the way. Right now, wemust commit to do more and to do it faster. We need toextend mobile connectivity to those that remain offline, whether due to lack of access or the more critical lackof usage. In this ever-changing and uncertain world, revived and collaborative partnerships across differentindustries and the public and private sectors have neverbeen more necessary to our future. Mobile technology remains at the centre of howwe address our most significant global challenges. With half of humanity in lockdown earlier this year, mobile networks were stress-tested but withstoodthe unexpected massive surges in data use. Thanksto continual investment in recent years, mobileinfrastructure has proved robust and resilient, servingas the cornerstone of continuity and recovery. This is reflected in SDG 9: Industry, Innovation andInfrastructure, where the mobile industry continues toachieve its highest impact.
