World AMR Awareness Week Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future 18–24 November 2025Campaign guide What is WAAW? World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) is a global campaign held every year from18 to 24 Novemberto raise awareness and encourage global action to addressantimicrobial resistance (AMR). With various events and activities organizedworldwide, WAAW promotes aOne Health approachto addressingAMR across human, animal, plant and environmental health. Get involved Drug-resistant microorganisms, including bacte-ria,viruses,fungi and parasites,can spreadbetween humans, animals, plants and the envi-ronment. They pose a global threat to animaland human health, food security, and econo-mies. The misuse and overuse of antimicrobials,combined with factors like pollution and weakhealthcare and animal health systems, make iteasier for resistance to develop and spread. Because AMR crosses sectors, borders and ge-nerations, we need coordinated action fromeveryone—governments, farmers, veterinariansand other animal health professionals, healthworkers, environment, waste and wastewaterworkers, researchers, policymakers, parliamen-tarians, food producers, and communities. This year’s theme underscores the urgent needfor further bold, coordinated, and cross-sectoralaction to address AMR. This guide offers key information to help you joinand participate in the campaign. It’s a practicalresource to support your efforts in raising awa-reness and taking action during WAAW. 2025 Theme Act Now: Protect Our Present,Secure Our Future Political declaration, the campaign calls oneveryone, including governments, civil society,health-care providers, veterinarians and otheranimal health professionals, farmers, environ-mental actors and the public, toturn politicalcommitments into real action. This year’s theme is a strong reminder thatAMRis already here – and it’s affecting our heal-th, our animals’ health, food systems, andeconomies, and it is closely linked to theenvi-ronment and pollution. The message is clear:we need to act now, coordinated across all sec-tors, to address this threat before it gets worse. Together, we can preserve the effectiveness ofantimicrobials and build a healthier, more su-stainable planet for the generations to come. Building on the momentum of the2024 Uni-ted Nations General Assembly High-levelMeeting on AMR and the adoption of the How you can participate Everyone is encouraged to take part in WAAW2025 by organizing or joining activities that raiseawareness and promote action on AMR. Whetheryou represent a government institution or agen-cy, university, private company, NGO, or localcommunity, there’s something for everyone. •Collaborate with public figuresto helpamplify your messages and reach wider au-diences•Engage youththrough competitions, schooltalks, or creative workshops or courses onAMR•Reach out to decision makerssuch as mi-nisters and parliamentarians to have a dialo-gue on key actions needed to address AMR•Add AMR to existing events– use upco-ming conferences, exhibitions or campaignsas a platform to promote One Health andaction against AMR•Promote good practicesin your sector byfeaturing guidelines, training tools, or postersin visible locations, and by training personnelon best practices•Engage the mediaby sharing key messages,writing op-eds, joining panels, and invitingjournalists to cover your events.
