Publisher: TaiyangNews UG (haftungsbeschraenkt)An der Golzheimer Heide 2340468 Duesseldorf, Germanywww.taiyangnews.info Foreword Module manufacturers have standards for thewidth and height of products that have mostly beenagreed on, and this is true for cells, although herethe variety of formats has increased again. Not longago, the question was about M10 or G12 half-cells,now the products are based on several rectangularcombinations of the two. PV modules have always been the eye-catchers ofany solar installation. They are the visible signatureof any project and the heart that powers the solarelectrons. Attending the world's largest solar trade shows inAsia, America, and Europe, TaiyangNews observedover the course of 2024 that not only were theseevents bigger, attracting record numbers ofexhibitors and visitors than the year before, but thesolar modules on display also mirrored the sector'sdevelopment: the products were more powerful, more efficient, more versatile, and often even morebeautiful. Manufacturers are trying everything they can toboost efficiencies and power. One trendy means todo so is busbar-less interconnections. You could seeproducts (as shown on the front cover photo-collage)exceeding 25% module efficiency and power levelsof 765 W. None of these can be purchased today, but the best panels on the market are quickly gettingmore powerful and efficient indeed, as evident inour monthly TOP SOLAR MODULES rankings. Thetop level, however, is a little above 24% and only 3manufacturers reach it today, whereas the volumesfor these production charges are still rather small. At a time characterized by massive oversupplyand record-low prices that don't seem to beending anytime soon, companies continue to pushforward with product improvements along thesolar module value chain. Rapid cost reduction iskey to survival, while the pressure also acts as acatalyst for innovation. As further price reductionsaren’t sustainable for manufacturers, the focus inthe foreseeable future is on saving on materials orreplacements through lower-cost alternatives. It'salso about coming up with something unique tostand out from the crowd. Finally, market leadersare striving to bring technology to the next levelas quickly as possible to gain an edge over thecompetition and push lower tiers out of business. As operational costs for solar power plants havebeen gaining importance too when making purchasedecisions, another trend is 'anti-dust' frames. Severalmodule manufacturers have introduced productsusing frames with drain systems designed to preventdust accumulation. With low-priced modules enabling many newapplications, manufacturers are increasinglydeveloping products for completely different needs, such as floating PV and agri-PV. Flexible andlightweight modules address the growing C&I market. Then there is an abundance of products designedfor BIPV, including the new segment of balcony solar– a plug-and-play solar system application primarilyfor apartment buildings that is quickly growing inpopularity in Europe. However, what was obvious in walking thesetrade shows is that TOPCon cell technology hasbecome the new standard, being produced in largervolumes than PERC for the first time this year. These higher-efficiency module offerings dominatedmodule suppliers' booths. Even smaller or newermanufacturers typically exhibited TOPCon products, even if they weren’t on their in-house productionfloors yet. Driven by growing environmental concerns andgovernment regulations, the global solar moduleindustry is increasingly adopting sustainablepractices. Companies are prioritizing low-carbonmaterials like recycled steel, sourcing locally toreduce transportation emissions, and streamliningproduction processes to minimize waste. Today's major cell/module companies usuallyhave their researchers working on all relevant celltechnologies and produce at least one beyondTOPCon, with a few focusing primarily on higher-efficiency but costlier cells. This report highlights a selection of module productsshowcased at leading solar trade shows in Asia,America, and Europe throughout 2024. In thisfocused solar module report, we’ve covered 106products from 55 companies. the techn
