In celebration and recognition ofNational Black Women in Sports Day(July7), Diverse Representation, in partnership with Wasserman, have released thefirst ever report on the impact of Black women in the sports industry. Thisreport shareskey educational and experiential findingsthat acknowledgethe progress made and the equity work still required. The first part of thereport explores two key demographics - (i) Black women sports fans and (ii)Black women sports agents. The second part of the report, which will bereleased on November 10, 2025, will explore the demographics of (ii) Blackwomen sports executives and (ii) Black women athletes.REPORT GOALSBlack women have an immense influence across the sports ecosystembut significant gaps remain in their perception as fans, what motivatestheir fandom, how they obtain leadership positions, and the careerpathing of representation. Over the past decade we also seen theundeniable impact of Black women sports agents. The goal of this reportis to share insights and provide guidance for sports organizations,teams, leagues, brands, athletes and agencies looking to embracegreater racial and gender equity in the industry.REPORTOVERVIEW (Relationships and Correspondence)Our intention is to build upon the research progress already being made while continuing to highlight key insights, which can inform andencourage brands, teams, leagues and properties to better understand the Black woman fan, athlete, executive and agent.CUSTOM SURVEYSMETHODOLOGYDiverse Representationand Wassermandistributed curatedsurveys to Black womenacross the United States.Surveys were not onlyused to gather data butalso understand theexperiences andperceptions of Blackwomen in sports. The majority of large and medium-sized sports agencies do not currently employBlack women sports agents.BLACK WOMEN OWNEDSPORTS AGENCIES Sports agencies need Intentional andvisible mentorship and hiring pipelinesspecifically for Black women pursuingsports representation. Black womenare often underrepresented in sportsagencies—not due to lack of talent orinterest, but due to limited access,visibility, and sponsorship within theindustry.Creating structured pathways that gobeyond surface-level diversity—like paidinternships, fellowships, or mentorshipprograms led by successful agents andexecutives—would open doors andlegitimize our presence.“Survey RespondentNFLPA Contract Advisor $1,000,000,000Black women sports agents have negotiatedover $1 billionin professional athlete contracts.ECONOMIC IMPACT A growing number of Black women are obtainingtheir athlete representation certification with USATrack & Field (USATF). These Black women athleterepresentatives are spread out amongst their ownagencies and larger agencies.USATF is the National Governing Body for track andfield, long distance running, and race walking in theUnited States. USATF encompasses the world’s oldestorganized sports, the most-watched events ofOlympic broadcasts, and more than 30 million adultrunners in the United States.GROWTHAREAS 20%Over 20% of Black women sports agents arecertified with two or more leagues.The most prevalent dual certification for Blackwomen sports agents are with the NFLPA andNBPA.DUAL CERTIFICATION MALE SUPPORTReal allyship shows up in public. Whenmale agents, execs, and athletes openlycredit, recommend, and partner withBlack women representatives, theynormalize inclusion and unlock roomsthat bias once closed. Visibility is a teamsport—and men who amplify Blackwomen’s expertise help shift the entireindustry toward equity.Greater public allyship is stillneeded from men in theindustry when it comes tosupporting Black women insports.““GREATER VISIBILITYBlack women agents tell us the issue isn’ttalent—it’s access. They navigate smallernetworks, limited mentorship, and biasthat sidelines them from marqueenegotiations. Elevating their visi
