ForewordI’m excited to announce the seventh edition ofCoursera’s annualGlobal Skills Report, offeringcomprehensive insights on the skill demandsshaping the future of work. Drawing on data fromour community of more than 170 million learnersand how they engage with content from our350+ university and industry partners, this year’sreport reveals where skill proficiency is risingaround the globe, where gaps remain, and what’sdriving learner behavior across 100+ countries.Generative AI (GenAI) has rapidly gained bothinvestment and adoption across sectors.1Trendson Coursera mirror this momentum, with GenAIenrollments surging by 195% year-over-year andsurpassing 8 million enrollments. In 2025, nearly700 GenAI courses on our platform have averaged12 enrollments per minute—a dramatic increasefrom 1 per minute in 2023 and 8 in 2024—makingGenAI the fastest-growing skill category onourplatform.2 To better assess global AI readiness this year,we’ve introduced an AI Maturity Index, whichcomplements our country rankings for proficiencyin business, technology, and data skills. TheIndex combines learner data with IMF and OECDmetrics to rank 109 countries on AI research andinnovation. Leaders around the world can use it toidentify AI learning hotspots, understand regionalprogress, and pinpoint leading talent hubs.Beyond AI, the World Economic Forum predictsthat 59% of workers will require retraining by2030 as geoeconomic realignments, technologicaldisruptions, economic uncertainty, anddemographic shifts transform the global labormarket—making continuous learning crucial.3Micro-credentials, such as Professional Certificateson Coursera, offer an effective way to build new jobskills, with nearly 90% of students valuing them forcareer progression, and 90% of employers willingto pay a wage premium forthem.4 As Coursera’s new CEO, I’m particularly inspiredby how online learning is creating a level playingfield for millions of learners across emergingmarkets, especially in new areas like GenAI. Inthe past year, GenAI enrollment has more thandoubled across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, andAfrica. Latin America has seen a 425% increase inGenAI enrollments, the highest anywhere.I hope theGlobal Skills Report 2025empowersyou to take action, whether you’re shapingnational education strategies, designingcorporate learning programs, or aligningcurricula with real-world needs. Together, wecan unlock opportunities through learning—andbuild a more resilient, inclusive, and skilledglobal workforce.
