ANNUAL REPORT 2024 TheNature Pledge Annual Report shares highlights of the first year of implementation of the UNDP Nature PledgeStrategy. Covering key accomplishments in accelerating the strategy’s three transformational global shifts,ValueShift,Economic and Finance ShiftandPolicy and Practice Shiftat global, regional and country level, UNDP hasmet targets, expanded new areas of work, and showcased how structural transformation can be achieved at pacethrough leveraging and enabling the power of UNDP’s US$3.9 billion Nature portfolio in 145 countries. TheUNDP Nature Pledge was launched in December 2023, asUNDP’s flagship commitment to halt and reverse nature lossand the degradation of our planet’s vital ecological systems. It is supporting countries to achieve their goals and targetsofthe Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and is aligned to the Paris Agreement and the SustainableDevelopment Goals. Through supporting action with the three interlinked transformationalsystemschanges of the Nature Pledge-the value shift, theeconomic and finance shift, and the policy and practice shift-thePledge enables countries to drive ‘whole of society’ and ‘wholeof Government’ actions and networked solutions for bold andenduring transitionsto a thriving, Nature-positive future for thePeople and for the Planet. The next five years will determine the trajectory of life on Earth andsustainable development. To change course, we must strengthenglobal partnerships, mobilize large-scale investment, and acceleratepolicyreform, embedding Nature in governance systems andfinancial frameworks. At a time of large-scale global change, wehave an opportunity to rethink our relationship with Nature—notas something separate from us, but as an integral part of humanwell-being and human development.Launching the Nature Pledgehas been an opportunity for UNDP and the global community toprofoundly re-think the value of Nature for Development, unleashingthe transformational shifts necessary for a better, healthier andNature-positive future. 2024 exceeded expectations with rapid but necessary pace ofambition, establishing a momentum which is strengtheningglobalpartnerships, mobilizing‘financeforfinance’investments, and accelerating policy reform across all threeshifts of transformational change. At UNDP we know thathuman development and our planet’s ecological systems areindivisibly interlinked. Humanity is part of the web of life on Earthupon which our collective survival, wellbeing and prosperitydepend. The only thriving future is one where our global systemsare regenerative, sustainable and circular and work with, notagainst, Nature.Sustainable farming, sustainable infrastructure, sustainable cities and sustainable lifestyles are the future ofregenerative growth. They promise new jobs, new opportunities, improving equalities and desirable futures, which brings withthemincreasing stability, security and peace.Achieving thistakes transformative – but possible - shifts in how we value andaccount for Nature, integrating Nature into decision making asfoundational to successful societies and economies. Both thegravity of its loss- biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse - and theflourishing opportunityof a thriving, Nature-positive future. The twin drivers of sustainable development – equity and security – are only possible within stable planetary systems. Resource scarcity - land, food, energy, water - cuts through every conflict onearth. Nature loss is a crisis that will pull down sustainable development with it. Nature’s stability underpins UNDP’s mandate and mission, providing the basis for food, water and energy security, peace, prosperity, and climate action. There is no ‘1.5’ without Nature, there is no development without Nature, there is no future without Nature. Six of the nine planetary boundaries are already transgressed, and theseventh boundary is about to be crossed. Climate change, biosphereintegrity loss, and o
