The Group’s loss attributableto shareholders was HK$250,250,000 as compared to a lossattributable to shareholders of HK$175,680,000 from last year.The slight decrease in turnover was mainly attributable to thedecrease in the food business turnover which was largelyoffset by the increase in restaurant business turnover duringthe year. The increase in loss attributable to shareholders wasmainly due to the combined effect of (i) increase in the financecosts due to the increase in interest rates in bank borrowings;(ii) the impairment of goodwill and right-of-use assets due todownsizing of the Hong Kong style “Cha Chaan Teng”restaurant business; and (iii) the operating loss in foodbusiness due to the decrease in sale of food products. While the Group’s business was affected by a slower thananticipated pace of economic recovery and poor propertymarket sentiment in the PRC and Hong Kong, traditionalrestaurant business saw a sharp rebounce following therelaxation of pandemic-related controls and re-opening of theChinese borders. The business remained healthy overall andgenerated good turnover and profit for the Group. 4% Contribution from property segment remained steady duringthe year. There was no major change in the investment propertyportfolio of the Group for the year. The Group had recordedan increase of 4% in rental income for the year. The increasein rental income was as a result of the gradual resumption oftenancy business to normal as the restrictions of pandemicwere uplifted. 50% The Group’s 50% owned Dongguan Home Town project is infull operation. The occupancy has improved during the yearas new brand name shops were introduced to the shoppingcentre, with new tenancy contracts signed.
