The Group’s loss attributableto shareholders was HK$175,680,000 as compared to aprofit attributable to shareholders of HK$3,822,000 from lastyear. The decrease in turnover was mainly attributable to thedecrease in the restaurant and food business turnover duringthe year. The operating loss attributable to shareholders wasmainly due to (i) the disruptions to the restaurant and foodbusiness due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, inparticular, the city lockdown of Hainan in the last two weeksbefore the Mid-Autumn Festival, which affected significantlyon the mooncake sales this year; (ii) the impact of exchangeloss on investment property valuation due to devaluation ofRenminbi against Hong Kong dollars during the year; and (iii)increase in the finance costs due to the increase in interestrates in bank borrowings. COVID-19 While the Group’s business was affected by a slower thananticipated pace of economic recovery in Hong Kong, and anation-wide COVID-19 outbreak during the third quarter whichseriously impacted the restaurant business in Mainland China,restaurant business saw a sharp rebounce at the beginning of2023 following the relaxation of pandemic-related controls andre-opening of the Chinese borders. The business remainedhealthy overall and started to pick up again with good turnoverand profit. 2%COVID-19 Contribution from property segment remained steady duringthe year. There was no major change in the investment propertyportfolio of the Group for the year. The Group had recordedan increase of 2% in rental income for the year. The increasein rental income was as a result of the gradual resumption oftenancy business to normal as the restrictions of COVID-19were uplifted.
