The circular economy is gaining momentum as more organizations embed circular economy targets, initiatives, and strategies. Consumer companies such as IKEA and Unilever are leading the way, while cities like Amsterdam are embedding circular economy policies into their policies and roadmaps. However, the world is not becoming more circular, with only 7.2% of materials cycled back into the economy in 2023. There is a long way to go regarding providing the right infrastructure, access to finance, supply chain transparency, and regulations. Companies need to align their management practices with circularity, starting from financial and accounting tools and approaches. Systemic change is not easy, but it is necessary for a fundamental rethink of the way organizations do business.
