The KIX Observatory on COVID-19 Responses in Africa's Educational Systems collected perspectives of education stakeholders on the potential long-term impacts of COVID-19 on educational systems in seven sub-Saharan Africa countries. The report calls for concerted support from African countries to mitigate the long-term impacts of COVID-19 on education. This support includes re-entry for all out-of-school children, strengthening guidance and counseling, training teachers to use information and communication technology (ICT), acquiring infrastructure for learning continuity, and investing in education data systems and emergency preparedness. The report highlights that many low-income countries in Africa cannot afford the huge investments required to build resilience and reverse some of the impacts of COVID-19, such as learning loss and an increase in out-of-school children and youth. The report provides valuable insights into the potential long-term impacts of COVID-19 on educational systems in Africa and calls for urgent action to mitigate these impacts.
