BUSINESS REVIEW Overview In the first half of 2023, the Group operated in a challengingmacroeconomic environment. Externally, the United Statesand European central banks continued their tightening cyclesunder the mounting inflationary pressures, resulting currencyexchange rate fluctuations. Internally, the economic inflectionpoint remains uncertain due to factors such as the persistentrise in unemployment rates and a decline in consumer sentimentfollowing the aftermath of the pandemic. During the first half of2023, the decrease of the Group’s turnover was primarily dueto the decrease in both selling price of coking coals and coalproduction volume in the first half of 2023. Coal Mining Business 5 As at 30 June 2023, the Group had 5 coking coal mines whichare Fuchang Mine, Jinxin Mine, Liaoyuan Mine, Bolong Mine andXinfeng Mine located in Gujiao, Taiyuan City, Shanxi, in addition,Fuchang Mine was recognised by the Coal Industry Bureauof Shanxi Province as a “” (SecondClass Safe Production Standardisation Coal Mine*) with a validperiod of 3 years from August 2023. 600,000 The coal mines in full operation during the six months ended30 June 2023 were Fuchang Mine and Liaoyuan Mine, whichentered the joint trial operation in October 2016 and September2018 respectively, passed the inspection for completion inJanuary 2017 and December 2018 respectively and obtained(the Permit for Safe Production*) in January2023 and November 2022 respectively. Regarding of FuchangMine and Liaoyuen Mine, the expected production capacity areboth 600,000 tonnes per year respectively. The operation ofJinxin Mine had resumed since April 2023. BUSINESS REVIEW (CONTINUED) Coal Mining Business (Continued) In November 2022, the Mine reorganisation and consolidationof Bolong Mine and Xinfeng Mine had been approved by theDepartment of Natural Resources of Shanxi Province.
