Background Planning– LA-RICS previously received NTIA’sapproval to construct up to 26 additional LTE sitesfor inclusion in the NPSBN. LA-RICS focused itswork this quarter on preparing and submitting itsbiological and cultural assessments for the initial 15of 26 sites to NTIA for its review. In late February,the California State Historic Preservation Office andthe U.S. Fish and Wildlife have concurred that thesites will produce no adverse effects. LA-RICSexpects to finalize its environmental assessment forthese sites during the next quarter. In the interim,LA-RICS continues to work with AT&T on the siteselection for the remaining 11 sites. Equipment installations– The MississippiWireless Commission continued its final testing ofthe improvements and upgrades to the state-wide,microwave system, which netted nearly 370 milesof broadband infrastructure. The Commissionexpects to conclude its testing next quarter. LA-RICS Update Network operations– LA-RICS transferredpreviously constructed Long-Term Evolution (LTE)sites to AT&T, FirstNet’s private partner in order tointegrate them into the National Public SafetyBroadband Network (NPSBN). By the end of thequarter, five of the 75 LTE sites were fullyintegrated into the NPSBN. The remaining sites willbe integrated by September 30, 2019.
