An initiative by the participating IP Offices in ASEAN 1.What is the ASPECPlus(ASPEC+)Programme 1.1The ASPEC+programme is a newoption offeredunder the existing ASEAN PatentExamination Co-operation (ASPEC) programme,launchedon6 April 2026. 1.2The 9 participating ASEANMemberStates (“AMS”)Offices are Brunei Darussalam,Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet 1.3As compared totheregularASPEC programme which operates sequentially-where afirstAMSIPOffice report is submitted to the secondAMSIP Office to accelerate the patentexaminationprocess-theASPEC+programmeseesmultipleAMSIP Officeswork 1.4Through this collaborative approach, theOfficeswill contribute expertise to the prior artsearchand examination process and endeavour to issue identical or similarexaminationresultswhere possible. Each office retains its responsibilityto issue 2.MainFeatures and Benefits 2.1Flexible office selectionchooseAMSIP Offices based on your market priorities. 2.2Receive the first office action within 10to14 months1from your selectedAMSIPOffices, providing early certainty on the status of multiple patent applicationsin ASEAN. 2.3Benefit from enhancedsearch and examination resultsthroughanexchange of 2.4Possibility ofidentical orsimilar examination resultsfrom your selectedOffices. 2.5Optimisepatent prosecutioneffort, time and resourcesby preparing simultaneous 2.6Benefit fromincreasinglymoreconsistentexamination standardsacross ASEANovertime,reducing complexity for businesses expanding into multiple markets in the region. 3.How it works-An overview 4.Eligibility criteria 4.1Your ASPEC+request2must meet all of the following requirements: a)The request is filed at therespectiveselectedAMSIPOfficesfor applicationswitheither (i)anew search and examination request/ substantive examination request, or(ii) a pending search and examination request/ substantive examination request b)The request is made for corresponding applications, i.e., the applications claimpriority to each other, share a priority claim, or are national phase entries of the same c)The request is madeforapplicationswithidentical claim sets or claim sets thatsufficiently correspond to each other. d)A request form is submitted giving consent fortheselectedAMS IPOfficestoexchange patent application information and documents. e)The request fulfils the local representativeor address for service requirementsinaccordance with the respective national laws of theselectedAMSIPOffices. f)If a deficiency related to the search and examination request/substantiveexamination request, ASPEC+ request form, and/or claim correspondence tableisraised,the applicant must respondtothe deficiencywithinthe timelinesimposedby 5.How to apply 5.1Ifthe requestmeetsthe above criteria, you can proceed to apply fortheASPEC+programmeatnoadditional fee. 5.2The applicant is required tosubmita completedASPEC+request format the same timeat each selected AMSIPOffice. a)For an application with a newsearch and examination request / substantiveexamination request, please submit theASPEC+request formandsearch and b)Foran applicationwitha pending search and examination request/ substantiveexamination request, where no office action or report has been issued,please c)Forboth 5.2 (a) and (b), theASPEC+requestformshall be accompanied bya 5.3For both 5.2 (a) and (b),to expedite processing of the ASPEC+ request,you may wish tonotify the ASPECsecretariatatPT_acceleration@ipos.gov.sgwith theASPEC+request 6.Contact us For enquiries relating to theASPEC+programme in the respective countries, kindly contact thefollowing:
