In today’s world, open sourceis interwoven across all industries as a critical infrastructurelayer that we all depend on and is the layer where most moderninnovation is taking place. Especially in the context of AI and therecent rapid technological change, the distinction between anorganization that merely consumes open source software andone that actively contributes marks the difference between anorganization stagnating and innovating. Strategic contribution is also a primary driver of innovation andcompetitive advantage. Innovation is no longer a solo sport;by collaborating with peers and even competitors on opensource projects, companies can subsidize their R&D with theadded benefit of avoiding stagnation and vendor lock-in. Activestewardship in an open source community allows a company tosteer roadmaps toward their own strategic goals and even buildproducts faster. Ultimately, moving from passive consumption toactive contribution transforms open source from a cost savingtool into a powerful engine for innovation, market l
