Achievement of this goal hinges on a multi-facetedapproach to provide access to high-quality health care services throughout the country. It will serve as a standard for procuring medicines forthe public sector and will, therefore, be used as a mandatory guide to prescribers, pharmacists Prescribers should not disregard their therapeutic judgment nor should patients their preferenceto use other treatment options outside of the GEML. However, strong evidence in support ofsuperior benefits or advantages of the alternate options to the patient; along with considerations It should be noted that information necessary to the use of these medicines such as indications,contraindications, safety, doses, etc. are not included on the GEML, but they will be found on the Benefits of the GEML The use of the GEML is expected to improve medicines availability, prevent irrational use ofavailable medicines and prevent the presence of medicines that are of poor quality in the publicsector. It will also foster evidence-based use of medicines and promote cost justification for Addition and Deletion on the GEML The list would be updated every two years by the EML committee in conjunction with the NationalMedicinesand Therapeutic Committee (NMTC).All requests for new medicines must be accompanied by supportingdata (specific indication,public health relevance of medicine,availabilityof pharmacopoeia standards,international availability of medicine,comparative The form/ tool designed by the EML committee is to be employed for addition and deletion.
