With abundant forestresources and skilled craftsmanship, it stands as one of the country’smost promising engines for export growth and recovery. From high qualitywooden windows to eco-friendly children’s furniture, Ukrainian producersare well positioned to supply the growing global demand for sustainable,energy efficient products. Beyondits export potential,the sector has become strategicfor Ukraine’s reconstruction and green transition. Wood based productsare essential for rebuilding homes and communities in ways that improveenergy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and promote environmentallyresponsible construction. As Ukraine rebuilds, this industry can help shapea more resilient and sustainable future. However, to seize these opportunities, Ukrainian enterprises must meetstringentinternational standards and demonstrate compliance withglobal regulations. Achieving this not only opens access to new marketsparticularlywithintheEuropeanUnionbutalsostrengthensconsumer trust, enhances product quality, and supports long-term economiccompetitiveness. Toaccelerate this transformation,the United Nations IndustrialDevelopmentOrganization(UNIDO)launched the Global Quality andStandardsProgramme (GQSP) Ukraine, funded by Switzerland throughthe State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The project facilitatesmarket access for Ukrainian SMEs, by enhancing the quality services andexport potential of the wood sector, with particular focus on wood processedproducts such as wooden windows and children’s furniture. The GQSPproject has: Strengthened national quality infrastructureinstitutions,enablingthem to deliver vital services, such as product testing, certification, andaccreditation, to ultimately ensure the quality of wood-based products,including windows and furniture Enhanced companies’ compliance capacity, helping Ukrainian woodprocessing businesses meet international standards and access newexport markets. Raised quality culture and national awareness about the role of qualityand standards in building reliable, safe, and sustainable products. The impact is already tangible. Ukrainian companies are now betterequipped to compete globally, contribute to green reconstruction,and align more closely with EU market requirements. Through theGQSP, Ukraine is paving the way for a modern, competitive, andenvironmentally responsible wood sector one that supports jobs,drivesexports,and underpins Ukraine’s sustainable economicrecovery.
