ASEAN national oil companies are pursuing net-zero emissions through CCS,hydrogen, electric mobility, operational improvements, and leak detection, with alltargeting zero routine flaring by 2030. At the regional level, ASEAN has launched Reserves, Production, and Consumption Proven Reserves ASEAN’s proven reserves declined in 2024, amid maturing fields and limited new discoveries. ASEAN’sprovenreservesdeclinedin2024from023levels,withcrudeoilfallingby0.57%from11.98to11.91BBO,andnaturalgasby3.49%from4.14to4.00TCM.Crudeoilreserveshadgrownuntil2021,beforeeasinginrecentyears.Bothoilandgasreservesdeclinedin2024,duetomaturefieldsandlimitednewdiscoveriesacrosstheregion.BruneiDarussalamandthePhilippinesrecordedrespectiveoilreserveincreasesof2.80%and27.27%,whileIndonesiaandMyanmardeclinedby5.39%and0.71%.Fornaturalgas,BruneiDarussalam,Myanmar,andThailandgrewby Production Oil output remained steady, while natural gas production rose across ASEAN. Incontrast,naturalgasproductionsincreasedby4.50%,reaching20.52BSCFDfrom19.64BSCFDthepreviousyear.Thegrowthwasdrivenby modest production increases in several countries,includingtheregion’stopthreeproducers:Malaysia,whichroseby10.82%;Indonesia,which increased by1.67%;and Thailand, ASEAN’scrudeoilproductionheldrelativelysteadyin2024,at1.48MBOPD,showingonlyaslightdeclineof0.12%from2023.The stableoutputreflectscontinuedupstreaminvestment,EnhancedOilRecovery(EOR)efforts,andfieldredevelopmentacrosstheregion. ASEAN oil and gasproductionstabilises,with aging reservoirs shaping 2024 Oiloutputstabilisedwithstrongerrecoveryefforts,whilegasroseonnewdevelopmentsanddemandgrowth. OilandgasproductionacrossASEANin2024enteredaphaseofconsolidation,reflectingboththelimitsofmaturefieldsandrenewedpolicyattentiontosustainingupstreamoutput.Whilediscoveriesremainlimited,operationalimprovementshelpedstabiliseproduction.Continuedgovernmentengagementwillbeessentialinmaintainingthisbalance,asenergy Othermemberstatesfocusedonaddingnewresourcestosecurefuturesupply. Acrosstheregion,acriticalshiftisunderwaytoprioritiseexistingfields.InIndonesia,thegovernmentsharplyreducedoilandgasexplorationpermitsfrom320to140in2024,shiftingfocusfromfrontierdrillingtomaximisingoutputfromexistingwells.This Malaysiareported strong upstream momentum,building on the 19 discoveriesPetronasmadein2023,mainlyinSarawakandSabah,whichaddedover1billionbarrelsofoilequivalenttonationalreserves.Thesediscoveriesledtoincreaseddrillingactivity,withover25wellsexpectedtobedrilledannuallyfrom2024to2026.Brunei EnhancedOilRecovery(EOR)projects.Similarly,inThailand,productionrecoveredmodestlyafter successful operationalfixes,withoutputs from theErawanandTantawanFieldsreboundingafte
