Omdia MarketRadar: CloudPlatforms for Games– 2025 Table of Contents: Summary.................................................................................................................02Omdia view.............................................................................................................04Recommendations...................................................................................................05Defining the cloud platform market in the games industry.....................................06Key capabilities and vendor landscape....................................................................09Vendor analysis.......................................................................................................13Appendix.................................................................................................................32 Summary Catalyst The modern games industry depends critically on cloud platforms to create and deliver content. ThisOmdia Market Radar explores the vital role that cloud platforms are playing in game development in2025, from the key trends driving greater usage of the cloud to the decisions facing game studios indeveloping their cloud strategies. The report serves as both a guide for games to determine whichcloud platforms and capabilities align with their operational needs and an aid to tech companiesbuilding products that must fit into an increasingly cloud-centric tech stack. Cloud platforms first and foremost provide the servers that host multiplayer games and other liveonline services, without which much of the modern games market would not exist. Moreover, gamedevelopment itself is increasingly taking place in the cloud, taking advantage of more flexibleworkflows, better remote collaboration capabilities, and many other benefits. In addition, cloudplatforms are also becoming central nodes for a wide range of solutions spanning live operations(LiveOps), multiplayer tooling, analytics, and more. Finally, cloud platforms have emerged as criticalenablers of the numerous rapidly emerging applications of AI and machine learning (ML) in the gamesmarket. Given the central role cloud platforms play across virtually the entire games technology stack,an appreciation of the trends and competitive landscape is critical to game developers and techvendors alike. Market snapshot Figure 1illustrates the solutions Omdia explored as part of this research, in addition to highlighting thecapability categories that were analyzed. The capabilities assessed are primarily organized by functionas used by games companies. The ability of a cloud platform to deliver in each of these areas rests onits fundamental infrastructure—capacity, reliability, regional footprint, and so on—but also on theextent to which it can offer tools, solutions, and integrations tailored to games industry use cases. Key messages •Cloud platforms have become pivotal to the games industry, offering an expansive range ofservices that are critical for both game development—now rapidly shifting to cloud-basedworkflows—and the operational infrastructure needed to support live games. This evolutionplaces cloud providers at the heart of the games technology ecosystem, serving asfoundational pillars for the industry’s growth. •AWS currently dominates the cloud services market for the games industry. While marketshares are hard to determine precisely, AWS’s influence is unmistakable—particularlyoutside China, where it far outpaces its competitors. Its widespread adoption stems fromits strong reputation and the familiarity many developers have with its tools and services.Despite its commanding position, AWS continues to push boundaries, consistentlyinnovating and expanding its already extensive suite of capabilities to maintain itsleadership. •That said, AWS faces mounting competition. Data from Omdia’s Game DeveloperCollective surveys highlights Google Cloud as the second most preferred platform amonggame developers. Google’s robust global server network is widely regarded as one of thebest available, and its emphasis on open source tools and mobile game services hasearned it significant favor among developers. •Microsoft Azure holds a comparable market share to Google Cloud within the gamesindustry. As one of the “big three” global cloud providers, alongside AWS and GoogleCloud, Azure offers world-class physical infrastructure. Its appeal is further enhanced by acomprehensive suite of developer tools, strengthened by seamless integration withPlayFab, Microsoft’s managed backend solution for games. •Tencent Cloud is another strong contender in the space. Tencent’s deep expertise in thegames industry is evident in its tailored tools and services for game development. Already amarket leader in China, Tencent is increasingly bringing its capabilities to developersworldwide. •Beyond these four leading players, no other cloud provider offers a fully integrated platformwith extensive capabilities
