Designed to ‘set the scene’for The SDGs inAction @ WGS2016program, thesession’s emphasis was to provide the context forthe participants and to facilitate broad discussionson expected outcomes of the three-day programcenteredtowards the achievement of theSustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adoptedat the UN Sustainable Development Summit inSeptember 2015.Moderated by Mr. Nasir El Tibi, Senior Presenterat Al Arabiya News Channel, and followed byakeynote speech delivered by Dr.MahmoudMohieldin, Senior Vice President for the 2030DevelopmentAgenda,Partnerships at the World Bank, panelists sharedtheir views on how best to build on the successesof the global goals set out 15 years ago as theMillennium Development Goals (MDGs) to boostpoverty alleviation programs, and achieve, by 2030,sustainable development in its three dimensions:social, economic and environmental.Session One: Setting the SceneDr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, Ms. Elil Lepik, H.E. Inam Karimov,Chairman and Minister, StateAgency for Public Service and Social Innovations,Government of Azerbaijan;Ms. Eili Lepik,Chief Adviser and National Contactfor Sustainable Development, Prime Minister’sOffice, Government of Estonia. UNRelations,and Two Interactive Dialogues on SDGsChallengesProviding the blueprint of the global developmentagenda for the next 15 years, the SustainableDevelopment Goals (SDGs), while ambitious anduniversal, do not come without challenges forits successful implementation.Two of the mostimportant challenges were highlighted throughinteractive dialogues convened at the 2016 SDGsin Action Programme:•Monitoring and Reporting,•Global Financing.Tofacilitate delivery of more streamlineddiscussions, the SDGs were grouped intosixclusters.In both sessions, participants have alsobeen pre-assigned to join group dialogues in aspecific cluster.Cluster Room*These six clusters are not UAE-clusters, and not intendedto be interpreted as UAE-recommended grouping.Theyhave been merely set to aid in the delivery of morestreamlined discussions at the 4thWGS.
