This involves integrating it as acentral theme in education policies. This new report examines the building blocks oflearning for sustainability in European schools. It analyses the inclusion of crucial competencesin school curricula and the variety of guidanceand support provided to teachers and schoolsto bolster sustainability education. According to the key findings of the report, we have made huge strides inembedding learning for sustainability within the educational framework.Sustainability themes are now woven into the curricula in all Europeancountries, with related competences integrated across several or all subjectareas. As part of ongoing curricular reforms, there is a concerted effort todeepen the focus on sustainability education. However, the report also unveils a gap in targeted support, guidance andtraining opportunities available to teachers and school leaders. And whilea majority of European education systems promotes the inclusion ofsustainability in all aspects of the learning environment, these policies arenot always coupled with financial and non-financial support for specificschool activities. Overall, the findings indicate a need for more robustactions to equip our teachers and schools with the tools they need toenable all students to understand and address sustainability challenges. I am confident that the rich evidence in this comprehensive report willserve as an invaluable resource for educators, policymakers and otherstakeholders to foster the development and enhancement of learning forsustainability. I hope that the findings will encourage countries to exchangebest practices and to learn from each other, underscoring the urgency ofplacing sustainability at the heart of school education. By doing so, wecan empower every young person to care for the planet and to protect ourcommon future.
