The UK government's efforts to digitize public services have been praised in the past, but recent reports suggest that the public is becoming increasingly concerned about data security and privacy. According to Deloitte's The State of the State 2022-23 report, 73% of respondents said data security is essential or very important when engaging with public services online. However, the Thales 2022 Consumer Digital Trust Index found that only 19% of respondents believe the government will keep their personal data secure, which is among the lowest levels of trust for any nation. This lack of trust in the government's ability to manage data responsibly is a major obstacle to the development of sophisticated, personalized digital experiences for accessing public services.
