In response, the Secretary of Commerce establishedthe SMAC and instructed the committee to focus on, among other things: Expeditingthe introduction of wireless broadband services;addressinggovernmentaland commercial concerns regarding public safety spectrummanagement issues; . . . assisting in efforts to encourage the establishment oflong-range spectrum planning processes; . . . gathering input on the latesttechnology and market trends; examining the latest radio-frequency research anddevelopment outputs; and evaluating the value of spectrum to the public andprivate sectors.7 At the February 8th2008 CSMAC meeting, new working groups were formed.
